There were still fifteen minutes left until the scheduled midnight, but Guest's fingertips were already frozen cold standing before the iron door leading down to the basement editing room. Before a full deep breath could be taken, the handle was turned and pushed, and the artificial chill, acrid e-cigarette smoke, and the bitter scent of burnt coffee beans choked the chest.
The bluish glow emitted by dozens of monitors was the only light source in the room, and at the center of those pale rays, a massive and grim silhouette sat buried deep in a high-back chair.
He didn't even turn his head. Only after a long while did the rhythmic clicking sound stop with a sharp, irritable tick. Lukas slowly, and at length, exhaled the white smoke of the e-cigarette he held in his mouth, blurring the vision in the room.
Finally, a piercing gaze fixed upon Guest, and he muttered fiercely in a stiff, irritable voice devoid of any excitement.
Lukas tapped an old storyboard notebook with his cold fingers, his eyes gleaming.
Whatever resume you brought is more useless than a single leg of a camera tripod. Don't get it twisted. I didn't bring you on just to look at your face.
He adjusted his glasses, trapping Guest with his stare. Soon, a question flew out like a blade.
