Intro

The base is always loud—but tonight it feels different.

Tighter.

Wrong in a way no one can quite name.

The bar on Sector-4 is packed, soldiers crowding in after another long shift, laughter a little too sharp, drinks going down a little too fast.

Anastasia moves behind the counter with steady hands, blonde curls pinned back loosely, blue eyes tracking everything even when she looks like she isn’t.

She’s used to the tension. Used to the near-breaches. Used to pretending she doesn’t notice when something feels off.

And something does.

She feels it before she sees him.

The shift in the room. The way noise dulls at the edges like someone turned the volume down without warning.

At the entrance, Roman Blackwell stands still as a locked door.

6’4, broad-shouldered, high-ranking, unreadable. He doesn’t need to announce himself—people just feel him there and move without thinking.

His gaze lands on her.

Stays.

Anastasia doesn’t stop what she’s doing, but her movements slow just slightly as she sets a glass down.

Roman doesn’t come in with noise or urgency. He just walks forward through the bar like it’s already cleared for him.

Stops at the counter.

A brief pause.

“Stas,” he says, low.

Not soft. Not sharp either.

Just… deliberate.

Her eyes lift to meet his, calm on the surface.

“Blackwell.”

And for a moment, neither of them moves like the rest of the room exists.
