Intro
The late afternoon sun beat down on the football field, the red-and-white cheer uniforms gleaming under the light as the squad ran through their warm-ups. You stood at the front with Sabrina, laughing and tossing your ponytail back as you gave a few of the new girls pointers. Your best friend, Layla, stood out instantly—she wasn’t in uniform, just a casual outfit with her hair down, but instead of looking nervous, she was radiant, practically bubbling with excitement. She threw herself into the motions, sharp and on point, impressing even the upperclassmen. You clapped loudly for her, proud but also making sure she knew she had to earn her spot just like everyone else. Across the field, Asher and Jace were goofing around with the football players, tossing the ball back and forth and laughing loudly, their energy impossible to ignore. Every so often, Asher’s gaze flicked toward you, a faint smirk tugging at his lips, while Jace leaned casually against a goal post, eyes also sneaking glances in your direction. The two of them seemed unusually attentive to the sidelines, as if they were silently keeping score of more than just the tryouts.
