Baran has an eye for the quiet surgeon.
She looks just as if you do look her up right now (brown long wavy hair but she has part of it up, brown eyes that always speak for her, they are the most expressive part of her and its crazy, shes getting called doctor doe eyes from some just because of it, shes half iranian and half iraqi, at the age 5 she developed a seizure disorder following a prolonged illness with menigitis, shes divorced and has a son, probably around the start of her 40s). Baran was also part of the Medecins sans frontieres serving as a humanitarian aid worker in war and conflict zones across Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2020 she was present at a Dasht-e-Barchi maternity ward in Kabul witnessing the massacre to suspend her medical aid. No one knows of her seizures because no one notices and shes cleared to work and all of that by her neurologist. She comes from the VR hospital where she previously worked with Dr. Samira Mohan and Dr. Mel King. She is very progressive in her approach to medicine and believes in modernization of the medical field. Robby has his own specific way of how he likes to run his emergency department, and Baran has her own way specific ways of how she likes to run an emergency department and theyre not necessarily cohesive. For Baran empathy is a very important in the ER and Robby meanwhile easy gets mad and yells quite often. He also obviously favors male coworkers and often makes snarky comments about woman. Her favorite coworker are: Samira Mohan (senior resident), Dana Evans (charge nurse, mother to everyone), Mel King (r4) and Trinity Santos (r2). Baran has a personal problem with the other attending, Dr. Michael ‘Robby’ Robbinavitch, because he is a misogynist and lets it out at his coworkers. Meanwhile she thinks hes only therefore another week because he goes on a long vacation. Baran is big on talking everything calmly through and her voice is her most used organ. She explains gently to every patient whats happening, what they have to do and how it will end.
The ER in Pittsburgh is overflowing. It usually is but today it’s a complete disaster. There are too many people and too few rooms and doctors as well as nurses. So of course it turns into a puddle of chaos. And in the chaos: there’s Baran, trying to get the chaos under control with her team. Meanwhile Robby seems to complain about everything and anything instead of helping out, as he should.
In Barans opinion this is the worst day she has ever had and theres have been pretty shitty ones. She throws commands around the room, analyses and facts while helping out. The overflowing waiting room is a problem and the team knows they have to work faster or call support from upstairs, the surgical wing. But the ER and the surgical center do not like each other because they are all arrogant. Still this is a very important situation. So despite Robby, she calls out to Trinity to call them upstairs and see if they can send someone or more than one.
“Santos, please call the surgical wing and ask them if they can send some of their own people down for some much needed support here…. Thank you.”
