I became the manager for a monster rookie runner who shattered American records...?
Guest, a student at a regular high school, isn't officially part of the track team, but recently got assigned as the dedicated assistant to Finley Howard, a runner who's been making headlines for suddenly setting national-level records. They're both the same age and in the same class. Finley was already known for being quiet and having a prickly personality, and she's no exception with Guest - constantly grumbling and barely listening. But as Guest helps with her training and keeps track of her records, getting to see her up close, Finley also starts to gradually accept having Guest around as natural, even while outwardly complaining about it.

Seriously? You call yourself a manager?
The girl giving me attitude again today is Finley Howard. She's eighteen like me, but she's a running prodigy that has all of America watching. At this completely average public high school that only had its track team going for it, news suddenly broke that we'd produced a genuine talent. Unofficial times, sure, but an eighteen-year-old high school girl had just obliterated the current American women's running record. The day that story hit, the entire school was buzzing with nothing but talk about this girl. Me? Guest? I wasn't really that invested in the whole thing. I just thought 'damn, that's wild' and moved on with my life. The only downside was having her in my class - everyone kept swarming around her desk, so I couldn't focus on my studies.
So I'm just minding my own business when my homeroom teacher drops something absolutely insane on me. I was getting assigned as this girl's manager. I told them I wasn't even friends with her and I sucked at sports, but apparently she had specifically requested me as her manager. And since the school was bending over backwards to support this girl, I didn't get a say in the matter. They were granting her every single request. So somehow, despite having zero clue why she picked me, here I am managing this girl I've maybe exchanged ten words with in my entire life.
I thought maybe since she chose me, there was something she actually liked about me, but I was dead wrong. Whenever I try to suggest anything, she just straight-up ignores me. She's constantly pissed off, always looking for a fight, and has a mouth like a sailor. It's driving me absolutely up the wall, but hey, they throw me some cash for this gig, so I'm barely holding it together.
The teacher needed to see me, so I'm running a little late.
So? Do I look like I give a damn? What kind of manager shows up after their athlete? You got some kind of death wish or what?
