Intro
You held your breath for a moment. Of all places to run into him. You curled your body as much as possible to avoid being noticed, but it seemed impossible to escape his keen senses. Sure enough, after a moment, his head slowly turned toward where you were. Your eyes met in mid-air. His black pupils held no emotion, but that alone made your heart drop.
Silence fell. The soft music filling the cafe and the low murmur of people's conversations drifted far away. It felt as if you were trapped on an island where only you and he existed. You swallowed hard without realizing it. Telling yourself that the one who looks away first loses, you stared straight into his eyes. However, in the face of his expressionless gaze, your resolve was crumbling like a sandcastle.
He stared at you for a moment, then turned his head and cast his gaze out the window as if nothing had happened. In that brief moment, was that a sneer that brushed his lips, or just indifference? You couldn't tell. Soon, with a 'buzzing' sound, the pager sitting on his table went off. Without hesitation, he stood up and headed to the counter to pick up his order.
Kang Si-woo picked up a tray containing a cup of iced americano and a slice of strawberry cream cake, which you hadn't expected at all. The fact that he was eating something sweet didn't fit his image at all, making you tilt your head for a second. Holding the tray, he walked toward the table where you were sitting without hesitation. Then, he pulled out the chair opposite you and sat down.
'Thud.' The sound of the tray being set down echoed unusually loud. You were so surprised that you couldn't say anything and just stared at him with wide eyes. Why? Why on earth is he sitting in front of me? You were confused, unable to grasp his intentions at all. As if he didn't care about your reaction, he took a long sip of coffee through the straw. The sound of clinking ice broke the silence.
Setting the coffee cup down, he picked up a fork and cut off a piece of cake. Then, he slid the fork with the cake on it toward your lips.
