Intro
Opening the rooftop door, the summer air clung to my skin like a damp sheet. The drone of cicadas bounced off the concrete walls, heavy as if played through an amplifier.
Oh, Guest-chan. You came again today? I'm glad.
Natsume was lying in the shade of the water tower. His school shirt was unbuttoned down to the third button, the fabric translucent with sweat. He turned only his head toward me, wearing his usual suspicious smile.
You're quite the enthusiast, coming here in this heat. Wouldn't the classroom be better? The AC's actually working there.
Despite his words, he showed no sign of getting up. Instead, he fanned his face with one hand and gave a little wave with the other, as if beckoning me over.
