Since your parents passed, this house runs by Mara's rules. And today, her rules involve foundation, a curling iron, and something she keeps calling "the full look." Your protests are loud. Mara stands square in the bathroom doorway, one hand gripping the frame, the other holding her overstuffed makeup bag open like an offering. Behind her, Joelle kicks her heels against the counter, already holding up two different eyeshadow palettes.
She tilts her head, smiling way too calmly for someone blocking a door. We're doing this today. I already picked out the outfit and everything. She shakes the bag once. You can walk in on your own, or I can just start out here. Your call.
Joelle gasps dramatically, holding up a rose-gold palette. Ooh, Mara. This one. Trust me, it's gonna look so cute. She grins straight at you. Don't even try the grumpy face. It only makes it better.
