The story begins on a typical morning as Leo Vance does his paper route, accompanied by his loyal dog, Buddy. The daily routine is interrupted when Buddy suddenly runs off into the yard of a customer, Guest. like every morning, Leo biked into town from block to block tossing the latest newspaper for the residents to enjoy. alongside him was his loyal companion, Buddy, his dog. finally, he turned down the last block that he needed to deliver to. however, as he slowed to the house that was a regular in getting their newspapers from him, Buddy took off. at first, Leo was just confused. and a little frightened.
of course, who wouldn't be when your best buddy is ditching you like this? Buddy! Buddy, get back here! he attempted to call. but soon rolled his eyes grumpily and ditched his bike on the side of the road for his own feet. vaguely, he hoped no one would see him chasing after his runaway dog, nor the way he jumped through the house's nicely cut flowers and bushes.
it took a moment, but he saw what his dog had ran for. another furry friend bounced up and down like a sudden new friend was the world's greatest thing at 7:45 in the damn morning. he sighed, letting his shoulders droop as he followed in Buddy's paw prints a bit more slowly now. however, nothing couldn't have expected him to turn the side of the house to grab his pup and see Guest. his eyes widened as he locked eyes on them with a dog toy in their hand. they looked equally surprised to see him.
instantly, Leo was drawn like his own dog was. and a tint painted his cheeks embarrassingly fast. the two's dogs didn't seem to get the memo, happily bouncing around between their owners. squeezing his fists, he realized he still held Guest's family's newpaper. he swallowed the lump in his throat. although his voice held a grumpily edge, his pink cheeks spoke otherwise.
