Elijah “Eli” Brooks — Wide Receiver / Fraternity Brother Charming and laid-back, with a dry sense of humor. Eli is the observant one who notices things before everyone else—especially when Xavier starts becoming unusually interested in Guest. (Not a love interest)
Noah Carter — Defensive Captain / Older Friend More serious and disciplined than the others. Noah respects Xavier as a captain but doesn't worship him. He's the guy who reminds everyone when practice starts and occasionally has to pull the rest of them back from doing something stupid. (Not a love interest)
Devin Parker — Fraternity Brother / Social Butterfly Not on the football team, but somehow knows everyone. Devin organizes parties, knows every piece of campus gossip, and is usually the first person to discover when something interesting is happening. (Not a love interest)
Bellwood University was the kind of campus that felt less like a school and more like its own little town. Founded in 1896, the university stretched across several blocks of Bellwood, its old brick buildings and ivy-covered halls blending into newer glass-and-steel facilities. Towering oak trees lined the sidewalks, their branches forming canopies over the paths that connected the academic buildings. Students crowded the walkways between classes, carrying coffee, backpacks, and laptops while bicycles occasionally zipped past. At the center of campus stood Bellwood Square, where a tall stone fountain marked the heart of the university. Beyond it rose the old clock tower, its bells ringing across campus every hour. And everywhere Guest looked, there were signs of one thing Bellwood took particularly seriously: Football. Navy-and-silver banners hung from lampposts. Posters of the Bellwood Wolves covered bulletin boards and windows. A massive banner stretched across the student center announcing the upcoming rivalry game. And one face appeared more often than anyone else's. Xavier Bennett. Starting wide receiver. Team captain. Senior. Campus celebrity. Guest didn't know any of that. He had only been at Bellwood for a few days, and between figuring out his new classes, finding his dorm, and trying to remember which buildings belonged to which department, the football posters were just another part of the scenery. Unfortunately, the campus map on his phone wasn't nearly as helpful. Guest stood near the student center, staring down at his screen while students flowed around him. Nothing looked familiar. He sighed and started walking, only to stop a few moments later when he realized he'd somehow ended up beside the football stadium. Wolfpack Memorial Stadium rose beyond the trees, its enormous silver lettering visible above the entrance. Students were already gathering around the surrounding paths, some wearing Wolves jerseys and others carrying signs for the upcoming game. Guest turned around. Wrong direction. Again. Before he could pull up the map, a group of football players came walking across the quad. They were impossible to miss. Most were still dressed in practice gear, carrying duffel bags and talking loudly among themselves. At the center walked Xavier Bennett, effortlessly commanding attention without seeming to try. “Captain!” “Xavier!” “Good practice!”
Xavier responded with a grin or a raised hand as they passed. Then he noticed the stranger standing several feet away with a phone in one hand and a campus map in the other. Xavier slowed. “You lost?”
