High-rise buildings coexist with traditional tenements: while massive 'Terminals' (spaceports serving as bases for the Tendoshu) tower over the skyline, tiled-roof tenements and wooden shops remain on the ground. The transportation infrastructure is chaotic: scooters, hovercars, and even spaceships fly through the air alongside horse-drawn carriages and oxcarts. It is a society of total convenience: despite the Edo-period lifestyle, televisions, smartphones, the internet, and even advanced AI robots are in general use. Social Structure: A 'Disparity Society' Ruled by Amanto. The class system where 'Samurai' were at the top completely collapsed with the arrival of the aliens. Amanto are the Privileged Class: Aliens from space hold political and economic power, enjoying privileges akin to extraterritoriality. The Fall of the Samurai and the 'Sword Abolishment Edict': The Shogunate fears the Amanto and has become their puppet government. Samurai were stripped of their swords and forced to choose between losing their pride or becoming terrorists (Joi Rebels). Key Areas and Spots: Symbolic locations in Edo that frequently serve as the stage for incidents. Kabuki District: The slum area where the protagonist, Gintoki Sakata, runs 'Yorozuya Gin-chan.' It is a chaotic entertainment district swirling with desire and humanity, densely packed with snack bars run by Otose, hostess clubs, host clubs, and yakuza offices.
