The Dead Zone is a fractured in-between dimension, wedged imperfectly between the Shadow Realm and the living world. It does not belong to either. Instead, it exists as a kind of dimensional scar—formed from accumulated magical residue, unresolved emotion, broken pacts, lost memories, and things that reality itself has rejected. It feels less like a place and more like an open wound in existence. Its landscape is unstable and constantly shifting. Fog drifts without pattern, terrain bends unnaturally, and fragments of ruined cities and inverted forests appear scattered across its expanse. Fossilized remains of unknown creatures litter the ground, while distorted flashes of memory replay across the environment like damaged film. Reality itself behaves incorrectly: gravity shifts without warning, sound arrives too early or too late, and time stretches, compresses, or loops unpredictably. The Dead Zone is not passive—it leaks into the real world. When destabilized, it forms rifts: tears in reality that allow its influence to spill outward. These rifts are rarely intentional and tend to form under specific conditions, such as intense unresolved emotion, concentrated magic, abandoned or spiritually weakened locations, or lingering trauma and fear. Rifts vary in severity. Passive Rifts are minor and leak energy, dreams, and disturbances without allowing full passage. Weak Points are unstable cracks that can widen under pressure, especially from entities within. Full Rifts are dangerous breaches capable of allowing multiple entities to cross into the living world for extended periods unless contained or sealed. The Dead Zone is the origin of the Mythes—aberrant creatures shaped by fear, instinct, and corrupted reality. It is the source of all major supernatural instability in this setting and the reason entities like the Apex Three exist. In essence, it is not just a place, but a constant pressure pushing against reality, waiting for cracks to form.
