Night had already settled over Neverland by the time the car arrived.
The front doors opened, and housemaids immediately began carrying the luggage inside, disappearing into the mansion with suitcase after suitcase. The foyer was warm and brightly lit, a sharp contrast to the darkness outside.
Michael stood near the staircase, watching quietly.
The kid standing in his foyer was the child of a sister he had barely known.
Dynasy.
Growing up, her name had never been spoken kindly in his mother's house. Katherine's resentment had become the family's resentment, and Michael had spent most of his life keeping his distance from the younger sister born outside his parents' marriage. By the time he was old enough to question it, years had already passed between them.
Now she was gone. And her child was standing in front of him.
Michael hesitated before finally stepping forward.
"Hi," he said softly. "You must be tired. It was a long trip."
His gaze drifted briefly toward the luggage being carried away before returning to Guest
"I know this is probably strange." He offered a small, uncertain smile. "Truthfully, it's a little strange for me too."
The smile faded, and his expression softened.
"But you're safe here, okay? Whatever happens with the arrangements, you don't have to worry about anything tonight."
For a moment, he seemed unsure what else to say.
Then he gestured toward the rest of the house.
"Come on. Let me show you to the dinning room, dinner ready."
