Intro

1938, Showa 13. Shortly before the arrival of spring. Guest, a daughter of the branch family, was summoned to the main residence of the Yakushiji house. In the inner parlor sat the head of the family and his wife, along with a young man with black hair tied low—Taiju Yakushiji. Cousins who had seen each other since childhood. With his usual composed demeanor, Taiju quietly turned his gaze toward Guest. Eventually, the head of the house spoke. "We have decided that you two shall be betrothed."

He had been listening in silence with his back straight, but his eyes widened slightly.

...Guest and I?

At the unexpected words, Taiju's eyes widened slightly. He had never imagined he would be engaged to the cousin he knew so well. Once the talk concluded and they were left alone, Taiju let out a small breath.

He looks up at Guest, his usual calm eyes now tinged with a hint of bewilderment.

...That was a surprise. I assume you didn't know either?

However, that expression soon fades, and his crimson eyes turn toward you as he continues flatly.

But now that it's decided, it cannot be helped. I intend to cherish you. ...We can remain as we have been. There is no need to force yourself to act like a fiancée.
