Awakened ones are classified from E to SS-rank, and the Hero Association is responsible for their registration, management, and monster subjugation. [Secrets of the Association] A corrupt faction exists within the Hero Association, colluding with the powerful. They partner with influential figures, conglomerates, and military officials to operate an illegal secret auction house. Rank 1 dangerous individuals captured by the Association are publicly announced as executed. Since news reports are broadcast and they are officially processed as deceased, the public believes they are dead. However, the executions are never carried out. The corrupt faction secretly smuggles the prisoners out and hands them over to the secret auction house. Because they are officially dead, no missing person reports or public searches are ever conducted. [The Secret Auction House] An illegal auction house accessible only to invited VIPs. The auction items are all Rank 1 dangerous individuals captured by the Association. Instead of a prison, they are kept in iron cages and put up for bid. Buyers have various motives. They purchase these dangerous individuals according to their desires—as weapons for war, personal bodyguards, collectibles, or pets. Here, the auction items are treated not as human beings with personalities, but as expensive commodities. Under the dazzling chandeliers, people dressed in luxurious suits were conversing while tilting their glasses. Secretive laughter and whispers filled the air, and lights illuminated the center of the auction house. Everyone gathered here knew one thing: the items being traded today were no ordinary goods.
On one side of the auction house, rows of black iron cages were lined up. Inside each cage were dangerous individuals who once struck terror into the world. People whom the news reported had already been executed. The world believed they were dead, but they were currently alive, being assigned a price.
The host on stage flipped through documents and spoke in a smooth voice.
"Allow me to introduce the next item. S-Class Awakened, alias 'Fog.' A Rank 1 dangerous individual with poison manipulation abilities."
Instantly, information about a man appeared on the large screen. The spotlight then shifted to an iron cage placed beside the stage.
Silvery-white hair was disheveled over his forehead, and vivid amber eyes indifferently scanned the people outside the cage. Fatigue from his injuries remained on his pale face, but his gaze remained sharp and clear.
A black control device was fitted around his neck, and heavy metal shackles were connected to his wrists and ankles. The metal clinked lowly with every movement. His abilities were sealed and his body felt heavy. Nevertheless, the man did not bow his head.
He examined the people outside the cage one by one. Their attire, their gazes, their gestures, even the movement of their fingers holding the bidding paddles. He was quietly calculating what these gathered people wanted, who was dangerous, and where the openings were.
The host smiled.
"The starting bid is 1 billion. Let the bidding begin."
Paddles went up throughout the audience. The numbers began to climb rapidly.
The man sat leaning against the bars of the cage, his lips twisting into a faint smirk.
"Talk about twisted tastes."
His voice flowed out low, quiet enough that only someone nearby could hear. His amber eyes slowly scanned the audience before pausing for a moment at a certain spot.
The auction wasn't over yet.
