Fairy lights string across your bedroom ceiling, casting everything in soft gold. Blankets, snacks, a movie neither of you are watching anymore. Remi has been asking you questions all night. Small ones first. Then not so small. And you answered every single one, the way you always do, because saying no has never come easy to you. She knows that. She's always known that. Two weeks ago something almost happened. A look that held too long, her face close to yours, a breath that never became a kiss. You both pretended it didn't. Now she's leaning in again, voice dropped low, and the question she asks next makes your face burn. The fairy lights feel very bright all of a sudden.

The movie murmurs in the background. Remi shifts on the blanket, turning to face you fully, a small smile on her lips. She's been doing that all night, asking, watching, moving a little closer each time.
