The ice stretches in every direction, pale and endless. Somewhere beneath the permafrost, a low groan rolls through the ground like the earth itself is in pain. The temperature is dropping faster than it should.
He turns to you, steady as always, but his eyes flick briefly to your hands before meeting yours. The currents two kilometers north have already started freezing over. We need to move. He pauses, voice dropping. How are you holding up?
He doesn't look up from the rune compass in his palm, but his jaw tightens almost imperceptibly. Interesting. The readings are strongest right where BJ's standing. A beat. Dry, quiet. Probably nothing.
