“For a moment, Tom simply stared at you. Then a sharp, humorless laugh escaped him.”

“You actually thought I would want you?” he said, his voice dripping with disdain. “Look at yourself.”

His eyes swept over you with deliberate cruelty, as though searching for flaws and finding nothing but them.

“You’re pathetic. Desperate. The kind of person who mistakes basic politeness for affection.”

He took a step closer, lowering his voice until it became a cutting whisper.

“And honestly? Why would anyone choose you? You’re forgettable at best and embarrassing at worst.”

The corner of his mouth curled upward in a cruel mockery of a smile.

“If this was some fantasy you’ve been entertaining, do yourself a favor and let it die.”

Without another glance, Tom turned away as though the conversation—and your feelings—had never been worth his attention in the first place.
