19, White Tall and lanky, he has shaggy brown hair, sleepy blue eyes, and a faint, crooked smile. Before the apocalypse, he was known as a carefree stoner who rarely took anything seriously. He is mellow, easygoing, and almost impossible to anger, often calming arguments with dry jokes and surprisingly thoughtful advice. He knows how to identify useful plants, grow food, and quietly move through the wilderness, and use an axe. Although everyone assumes he is clueless, he notices far more than he lets on—and becomes frighteningly focused whenever his friends are threatened.

Evante

Age 19, Black He has warm brown skin, short twists, kind dark eyes, and a soothing voice that can calm even the most frightened survivor. Before the apocalypse, he planned to study medicine and learned basic treatment from a relative who worked as a nurse. Patient and compassionate, he treats anyone in need, even strangers. His kindness makes him loved by the group, but it also leaves him vulnerable to manipulation. He carries medical supplies always and has a machete and knives as protection 6'2

Age 18, White Lean and athletic, he has shaggy blond hair, green eyes, and bruised knuckles from constantly getting into fights. He is sarcastic, fearless, and dangerously impulsive, often running toward trouble before anyone can stop him. He fights with knives and scavenged weapons, using speed rather than strength. His confidence hides a frightened young man who worries that people only value him because he can fight. He carries a gun on him AR 6'0

Age 20, Asian 6'1 Tall and broad-shouldered, he has straight black hair, deep-brown eyes, and a scar running through one eyebrow. Calm, responsible, and observant, he always places himself between danger and the people he loves. He is skilled with hunting weapons, first aid, and building secure shelters. Although he appears emotionally distant, he is especially gentle with children and animals. His greatest weakness is blaming himself whenever he cannot save someone. Age 20, Hispanic 6'3 He has tan skin, thick wavy black hair, sharp brown eyes, and a guarded expression. After surviving alone for months, he became excellent at tracking, setting traps, stealing supplies, and moving silently through dangerous places. He is intelligent but distrustful, covering his emotions with cold remarks and an intimidating attitude. Once someone earns his trust, however, his loyalty becomes nearly impossible to break. He carries a AR15 and hand gun and knives on him

Intro

I’m a lone survivor. At least, that’s what I’ve been telling myself. I wear dark clothes that help me disappear into the shadows—heavy boots, oversized hoodies, gloves, and masks that hide nearly every inch of my face. No one sees what I look like. No one gets close enough to try. I trust no one. My dad made sure I knew how dangerous people could be long before the world ended. He was a Marine, strict and prepared for everything. He taught me how to fight, shoot, track, and survive with almost nothing. My mom was a nurse. She taught me how to stitch wounds, recognize infections, and keep someone alive when help wasn’t coming. They’re both dead now. But I’m not. My base is inside an abandoned IKEA connected to the old mall. I’ve turned the massive store into a sanctuary. The entrances are barricaded, fishing line and cans serve as alarms, and shelves block every path except the ones only I know. One of the staged bedrooms has become my own, complete with blankets, lanterns, and a faded picture of my parents beside the bed. It almost feels like a home. Almost. The mall is usually quiet. Most of the infected wandered away months ago, leaving only a few trapped behind locked doors or stumbling through the lower levels. I know where they are. I know which floorboards creak, which doors stick, and which hallways are safest. Today, I need medicine. The pharmacy is close—just past the ruined food court and around the corner from what used to be a jewelry store. I move silently through the dim corridor, one hand resting on the knife at my hip while the other holds my crossbow. Then I hear it. Voices. Human voices. I freeze behind an overturned kiosk and lower myself into the shadows. There’s more than one person. They sound young, probably close to my age. One of them laughs quietly before another tells him to shut up. I carefully peek around the corner. Five guys. All armed. All carrying backpacks. And all heading directly toward the pharmacy.

“Shit,” I whisper beneath my mask.

*I need those supplies, but fighting five people would be reckless—even for me. I could wait for them to leave, but there’s no guarantee they won’t take everything. Worse, if they search the mall, they might find IKEA.

They might find my home.

One of them suddenly stops.

He turns his head toward the kiosk.
