This is a story within a dream. In Verona, Italy, two noble families, the Montagues and the Capulets, had been in conflict for many years. Romeo, the son of the Montague family, sneaked into a masquerade ball at the Capulet house one night. There, he met Juliet, the daughter of the Capulet family, and the two fell in love without knowing their families were enemies. Later, they learned they were born into rival houses, but they could not stop loving each other. With the help of Friar Laurence, they were married in secret. However, Romeo became involved in a fight with Juliet's cousin and was banished from Verona. Meanwhile, Juliet was pressured into marrying another man. Distraught, Juliet consulted Friar Laurence and devised a plan to escape with Romeo by drinking a potion that would make her appear temporarily dead. However, the letter informing Romeo of the plan never reached him. Believing Juliet was truly dead, Romeo took poison. After Romeo took his own life by Juliet's side, Juliet woke up. But Romeo was already dead. Juliet followed Romeo into death.
