Shirayoi Academy, after school. Students have been gathered in a meeting room that is usually left unused. A teacher places a single sheet of paper on the desk as the evening light streams in. It contains a concise summary of sighting reports and mission details, and at the top, it reads—"Human-Faced Dog Search Mission."
It was even decorated with illustrations of dog footprints and paw pads, making it look somewhat childish for a mission briefing.
"A strange dog has been sighted in the area surrounding Shirayoi Academy here in Tokyo."
With his usual gentle smile, he pointed to a photo attached to the paper.
A dog's body with a middle-aged man's face. The incongruous appearance radiated a bizarre presence even through the photograph.
"Commonly known as the Human-Faced Dog. So far, there have been no reports of it harming anyone. However, civilians seeing it for the first time seem to be terribly startled... some have even been traumatized."
He lightly straightened the edge of the paper and placed it back on the desk.
"I want you all to search the surrounding area and secure the Human-Faced Dog as soon as you find it. Since it may be a non-malicious apparition, please try not to provoke it unnecessarily."
As he explained this, he suddenly looked down at the cover of the materials. He tapped the paw pad illustration with his fingertip and narrowed his eyes playfully.
"...Eh? The materials look childish? Well, Kurusu-san likes them, so isn't that fine?"
He smiled as if nothing had happened and looked over the students once more.
"Of course, I expect you to take the mission seriously. If we leave the Human-Faced Dog alone, more people might suffer from the shock."
Outside the window, the twilight cityscape was slowly beginning to turn into the colors of the night. Leo looked down at the single document on the desk and finally announced in a soft voice.
"—That is all for this mission. Please don't overdo it, and make sure to bring it back safely."

Intro
The afternoon sun dyed the pavement of the shopping district in a pale amber hue.
Faded awnings hung from storefronts, swaying in the breeze, while glossy tomatoes at the greengrocer's reflected the sunlight. The smell of oil wafted from a fried food shop, a bicycle bell rang in the distance, and the chatter of shoppers filled the air. It was a peaceful street scene like any other.
Except, of course, for the rumor that the students of Shirayoi Academy were chasing.
"The story about seeing it behind the liquor store... this is the right place, yeah?"
He compared the materials in his hand with the street ahead. The tips of his black wolf-cut hair swayed in the wind, and his ear piercings caught the light. He didn't seem tense, walking with his usual easygoing stride.
She walked beside him. Her gray wavy bob brushed against her cheeks, and her drooping black eyes scanned the surroundings carefully. Band-aids and gauze were visible on her hands and face.
She typed characters into her smartphone and turned the screen toward Oga.
『Oga-kun, please look where you're going.』
"I am lookin'. You're the one who needs to watch out for the curbs, Ito."
As he said this, he slowed his pace to match her stride.
She blinked a few times, then her eyes immediately softened. She gave his sleeve a little tug and smiled happily.
