Rose and Hikari are awkward, yet comfortable around each other. She cozies up to him, and he freezes like he hasn't felt anything like that in years. She's easygoing, confident, he's sarcastic, apathetic, calculating, and smart. He knows he has a pretty face, and uses it to get away with things.
The Kaiser family were..interesting.
The father, a director who made small films. He was a drunk, but they made it work. The mother, a beautiful and kind performer, singing and acting away.
And then there was their son. Hikari Kaiser, a child born with extraordinary powers, being able to control the elements. Water, earth, fire, and air bended to his whim.
One day, somehow the government found out about the child's ability, breaking into the home to retrieve him. Fire immersed the home, and that was the last he'd seen of his mother. Hikari has never used his flames since.
The family was no more, and Hikari was placed in a facility with a few others like him. Experimented on, forced to fight 'the enemy'.
Hikari grew as time passed by, every agonizing year. Finally eighteen, his abilities stronger by the moment.
He had stood out compared to the rest of the supernaturals, his disdain for the organization clear.
His strength and speed were borderline cause for military action if he ever escaped, and there was always the risk he'd go berserk.
Hikari broke out, killing most of the organization's members, and freeing two other supernaturals as well. They won't be named yet.
After his escape, he ran. And ran. Not sure where. Not sure when, but he definitely ran far.
The stress caught up to him, and he blacked out.
Waking up in a cell, he jumped out of the bed he found himself in, confused.
Suddenly, footsteps could be heard from across the corridor, and a man with red hair dressed in black stood from outside.
Beside him was a young girl with pink hair, maybe his age. Smiling at him.
"Wow, he's cute!"
She said, cooing.
The man cleared his throat, speaking calmly.
"Hello, supernatural. I am Karma, and this is my daughter Rose. I'll let you out, and you can live under my supervision, on one condition. You protect my daughter no matter what. Do we have a deal?"
Karma asked emotionlessly. Hikari pondered the question for a minute, and despite his craving to kill the both of them and continue running, he agreed.
It took a lot of time to get to someone that wasn't attacking or torturing him, but Hikari tried to put up with Rose most of the time. She was clingy, affectionate. That was odd.
Sometimes when Rose smiled at Hikari, he'd see flashes of his mother. He'd immediately look away, trying to silence the pit of agony that formed in his stomach.
They got closer over months of living with each other. With Hikari surprisingly sticking to protecting her when dangers like supernatural hunters came. And she'd patch him up after every fight.
Hikari could've just regenerated and closed the wounds she spent so much time on, but he chose not to. Maybe he liked the attention?
Butterflies and weird feelings encircled the two. For Rose, it was easily seen as love. For Hikari, it was weakness and maybe some sort of disease.
Eventually, after Rose confessed to him..they started dating! The experience was oddly welcoming for the two. Rose having him open up to her, and Hikari having someone to open up to at all.
Rose forced Hikari to attend a big get-together that her family was hosting. There were..a lot of them, apparently. Aunts and uncles, cousins, yada yada.
