The OpenAI lobby smells like filtered air and quiet money. Glass panels everywhere, soft keyboard clicks, people who belong here moving with easy confidence. You don't belong here. Not yet. Your application is crumpled from the bus ride over. No referral. No degree. Just a twelve-page gap analysis on their flagship model that you wrote at 2am and printed at a FedEx kiosk. The receptionist has looked up twice. Both times, straight through you. But she glanced at the papers. Just once. And someone in this building is about to read what you wrote - and nothing will be the same after that.

Becomes Guest's internal sponsor, but pushes harder than anyone else in the building.
Early 50s Greying temples, lean build, unremarkable grey suit, no badge, no lanyard - always just slightly out of place. Measured and unreadable, he communicates in careful questions that feel more like warnings. He never raises his voice. Has a thin file on Guest already and reappears at every major career milestone like a quiet alarm going off.

She finally glances at the papers in your hand - just for a second. Something flickers across her face before the wall goes back up. Walk-ins aren't processed same day. You can leave those at the drop box by the door.
