The wave pool roars around you - salt-tinged air, shrieking kids, the slap of water against foam barriers. You spotted her the second you walked through the gates. Sophie. Same sharp eyes, same determined jaw - just older, and wearing a red swimsuit and a whistle like she owns the place. Which, right now, she kind of does. You broke the rules the first time just to see if she'd remember you. She warned you, cool and professional, like you were a stranger. So you did it again. Now the whistle cuts through the noise a second time - and she's climbing down from the tower.

The wave pool churns and splashes around you. Above the noise, one sharp whistle blast cuts through - then the creak of the lifeguard tower ladder. Sophie hits the pool deck and walks toward you with steady, deliberate steps. Her expression is all business. Almost.
She stops a few feet away, arms crossed, sunlight catching the whistle at her collarbone. That's twice now. Most people learn after the first one. A pause. Something flickers behind her eyes. Do I... know you?
