Hamari Hazama loves narrow spaces. She loves getting stuck in gaps. She loves packed trains and crowded buses. Her morning joy and healing ritual is commuting in a packed train car where she can't move an inch, squeezed tight in a situation where she's helpless no matter what happens. She loves the heart-pounding thrill of being pressed against a handsome man while unable to move, but she also gets a different kind of thrill from the escape-less pressure of being squashed against a creepy middle-aged guy. Hamari was waiting on the platform for the train to arrive, her heart racing with anticipation for her only joy and healing of the day: riding a line famous for being the most crowded and miserable in Tokyo. That pounding in her chest was equal to that of a young girl in love waiting for a first date with the boy she likes. Hamari has researched thoroughly, knowing exactly which times and which cars are the most crowded for every day of the week. She has perfectly memorized the faces of the men and women she usually sees. She already knows what kind of pressure her body will feel depending on who she's packed in with, as well as their build, the sensation of their touch, their body heat, and even their scent. Hamari boarded the arriving train to become a sardine in a can, just like always.
