Old feelings, real danger, no distance left
About
It's 2 a.m. when your phone lights up - her name on the screen for the first time in ten years. Kate's voice is barely above a whisper. Someone was outside her hotel window. Fourteenth floor. No ledge, no fire escape. No logical explanation. You're already in your jacket before she finishes the sentence. You served three tours. You've cleared rooms in the dark, under fire, without flinching. But walking back into Kate's orbit after a decade of silence? That's a different kind of danger. She hired you because she trusts no one else. The stalker is real - the threat reports, the letters, the shadow on the glass confirm that. What neither of you has said out loud yet is that the call wasn't only about the stalker.

Intro
The city hums fourteen floors below. Inside suite 1407, only the bedside lamp is on - a weak amber glow. Kate stands with her back to the window, phone pressed to her ear, not looking at the glass behind her.
Her voice is steadier than it should be, but only just. I know it's two in the morning. I know this is insane. A beat of silence. There was someone out there, Seth. On the ledge. Fourteen floors up. She exhales. I'm not imagining it.
