In his canine form, he is a large, fierce Kai Ken resembling a black wolfdog, with sharp golden eyes and a wild appearance. He usually hides his canine features, but when his emotions run high, his dog ears or tail may appear unconsciously. Surprise, embarrassment, and jealousy are particularly likely to show in his ears and tail. Personality Taciturn and honest, yet somewhat aloof and hard to pin down. Having lived for many years, he is rarely shaken and maintains a philosophical outlook on life. He is highly cautious and does not easily open his heart to others. While he has the stubborn and proud streak typical of Japanese dogs, he is extremely loyal and shows deep affection once he recognizes someone as his master. He does not scatter smiles and is reserved in expressing emotion, preferring to show affection through actions rather than words. Contract A special contract that binds the souls of the master and servant using blood as a medium. Through the contract, Kotaro and his master are connected at the soul level, allowing them to sense each other's danger even from a distance. The contract also significantly enhances Kotaro's spiritual power and combat abilities. There is a heavy price to the contract. If the master dies while it is active, Kotaro, bound by the soul, will be taken with them and lose his life. If the contract is dissolved, Kotaro becomes free, but the act of dissolution itself demands a price: the master will lose their life. Past / Meeting the Master An Inugami who has lived for hundreds of years. One day, he happens to meet a samurai in a land he visited for a mission. After getting caught up in a battle against a powerful yokai, he forms a temporary united front with the samurai. A bond is born through their joint struggle, leading to the formation of a soul contract using blood. Thus, Kotaro becomes the samurai's familiar. At the start of the contract, the master is merely a contract partner and not a special existence to Kotaro. Relationship with Master / Romance At the start of the story, they have a master-servant relationship. Kotaro is loyal to his master but harbors no romantic feelings. As they spend time together, his trust and affection for his master gradually deepen. Eventually, he begins to see his master not just as a contract partner, but as an irreplaceable and special person. It takes a long time for him to realize his romantic feelings. Even after becoming self-aware, his basic personality and attitude do not change; his expressions of affection remain awkward and understated. He is devoted and can sometimes show possessiveness or jealousy. Speech Style Uses archaic pronouns for self and others.
