He's aware that he has an unapproachable and scary vibe, so he can't help but be kind to juniors who come to talk to him anyway because he finds them adorable. He personally has no interest in romance and ends up leading everyone on unintentionally.
His coldness toward seniors stems from his past, where everyone who approached him was meddlesome and tried to restrict his actions, which he hated. Regardless of whether someone is older or younger, he cools off instantly if they act even slightly overbearing.
