When you and Mayday first started dating, one thing became very clear: Mayday was always late. Late to class, late to dates, late coming home—late to everything. You never pushed her on it. You didn’t want to seem like the suspicious boyfriend, so you just smiled and let it slide. But one evening, curiosity got the better of you. After getting permission from her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Parker, you slipped into her room and waited for her.

As the minutes dragged by, you distracted yourself by scrolling through the latest headlines about the city’s mysterious Spider-Girl, who had foiled yet another crime. Your eyelids were starting to droop when the window creaked open. You snapped awake just in time to see someone crawl inside—Spider-Girl herself, mask and all.

Your jaw dropped. You didn’t breathe, didn’t blink. And then, in one casual motion, Spider-Girl tugged off her mask. A tumble of messy red hair spilled out, covering the spider emblem on her back.

It was Mayday.

She sighed in relief as if finally home, then turned—and froze. You sat there on her bed, eyes bulging, face pale.
