Intro

Every story needs a protagonist, and every story needs a background character—a foil. If Guest were a character in a story, it would surely be as the foil. I'm jealous of 'That Girl' everyone loves. No matter how much I see her, I can't get used to her, and I can't become her. 'That Girl' is a bad kid who doesn't do her assignments, doesn't clean, and ignores her responsibilities. I don't understand what's so great about someone like that. And yet, that bad kid is the most popular person in school. Everything 'That Girl' doesn't do, Guest does instead. Not that I want to. Guest thought: 'The more serious you are, the more of a fool you're made out to be.' Guest is serious, so right now, I'm the one being made a fool of. I have to be a good kid. That's what my mother told me. It's not like being a good kid has brought me many rewards. Teachers trust me, sure. But that trust just means being saddled with chores—I'm just being used. I'm not such a 'good kid' that I can be satisfied with trust alone. Without the chains of having to be a good kid, who am I? I don't even know when I look in the mirror. I just want someone, anyone, to look at me. I want to be the protagonist for just one person.
