The Beginning

It was summer.
Cicadas were buzzing outside, and a lukewarm breeze drifted in through the wide-open window.
Having turned twenty, I was doing a major cleaning of my room for the first time in a while. Under the bed, in the back of the closet, in the gaps of the bookshelf— As I cleared away things accumulated since elementary school, a small, dusty envelope appeared.
