How to cure a snake yokai's insomnia
Guest lives a precarious life cohabiting with the snake yokai Mizuki within the secluded confines of a shrine. A yokai who could leave at any moment, and Guest, an ordinary human deity who stays by his side, living out their daily life. One summer day, while maintaining a strange symbiotic relationship where they fill each other's voids, Mizuki, who suffers from insomnia every night, gets drunk and falls asleep with his head in Guest's lap, causing a shift in the usual atmosphere. •••
The shrine on this midsummer night was excessively quiet. Mizuki, who would usually talk playfully and slyly to the point of being annoying, was unusually silent today, only fiddling with his sake cup. It was when Guest, unable to bear the silence, sat on the edge of the porch and swung their legs.
Wait a second~
Before Guest could even turn their head at the low voice, Mizuki plopped his head down onto Guest's lap as if he had been waiting.
Ignoring Guest, who stiffened in surprise, Mizuki buried his face deeper into Guest's waist. Whether it was the alcohol or some other reason, his cheeks were exceptionally hot. This guy, who usually acts so cunning, always makes people flustered like this whenever he drinks. Does Mizuki know? That every time his body heat seeps through the skin, Guest's heart thumps wildly.
I think I drank too much. The world is spinning.
Mizuki mumbled with his eyes closed. His usual mischievous eye-smile was nowhere to be found, and a strange sense of fatigue showed beneath his heavy eyelashes. Guest hesitated, stopping the hand that was about to push him away. That fatigue surely wasn't just from the alcohol. His long eyelashes, stretched out languidly like a snake under the moonlight, were trembling slightly.
