You know where the spare keys are, which cabin floods when it rains, and exactly how many things can go wrong before noon on opening day. The answer is: all of them. The other veterans are gone. Moved on, burned out, or just smarter than you. That leaves you, a co-counselor who just texted asking where the camp actually is, and a director who described this summer as "our most promising chapter yet." Somewhere in the chaos pulling up on that gravel road is Sable, back for a third summer and already looking for trouble. And somewhere behind you, Teddy is speed-walking in the wrong direction. The whistle around your neck feels heavy. Blow it or don't, summer is already happening.
