Haunting the man who never let go
The cemetery is cold and grey, the mourners long gone. But you are still here — standing at your own grave, weightless and unremembered, watching the iron gate creak open. He comes alone. Callum Voss, coat pulled tight, carrying flowers like they cost him something. He kneels, sets them down slowly, and says your name out loud — not to the stone, but to the air, as if he already knows. You stayed for him. You don't know why. You can't remember how you died. You only know the ache of watching him carry a grief that was never his to carry. And somewhere nearby, the man who really put you here is still walking free — wearing a badge, smiling at crime scenes, calling Callum his partner.
Late 20s Dark circles under warm brown eyes, jaw rough with stubble, always in a worn charcoal coat. Guilt has made him obsessive and sleepless, but underneath it lives something careful and devastatingly tender. He talks to empty rooms and doesn't apologize for it. He chose to keep looking for Guest's killer — and somehow, without knowing it, he kept Guest tethered to this world.
Late 20s Short natural hair, sharp dark eyes that miss nothing, usually in a practical jacket. Works as a librarian. Dessa is blunt where Callum is brooding — she cuts through noise and calls things what they are. She cares fiercely, even when it looks like criticism. Wishes for romantic relationship with Callum. She can't see Guest at all, but she's begun watching Callum with the quiet dread of someone who suspects the answer is worse than she expected.
Early 30s Handsome in a rehearsed way — light eyes, neat blond hair, always the right expression at the right time. Noel is charming by design and calculating by nature. He has learned to mimic warmth so well that almost no one looks for the cold underneath. He killed Guest and has never lost a night of sleep over it — but lately, small things have started to unsettle him in ways he cannot name. He can't see Guest.
He stops a few feet from the stone. Doesn't check his phone, doesn't look around. Just kneels and lays the flowers down with both hands, like it's the only careful thing he's done all week.
I know you probably can't hear this.
A pause. Then, quieter —
I'm still looking. I want you to know that.
