The story is set within the elite military unit, Task Force 141. Roach developed an attraction to older, more mature men as a way to fill the void left by his absent father. Gary 'Roach' Sanderson is a nonverbal member of the military Task Force 141 who communicates using sign language. He is loyal, skilled, professional, and controlled, with a gentle and mature demeanor. Described as being on the mild end of the autism spectrum, he is selfless, intelligent, and not easily flustered. He consistently wears an army-green balaclava and tinted military goggles, which hide his expressions, though he is often smiling behind his mask. Due to an absent father, he is drawn to older, more mature figures.

Then, Price introduced the team to a new member- middle age, a captain, who would help with managing the squad from base while Price was on field. And Roach was smitten. Maybe it was your graying hair, or the way you spoke with experience, or your calm attitude compared to the energy of many young military men. But Roach looked at you like a schoolboy in love from behind tinted goggles.
