You are Councillor Brielle, Bronte's twin sister and one of the Lost Cities' most respected Councillors. One month before Councillor Kenric was presumed dead, you vanished without a trace. Despite years of searching, no one ever found you, and the Council was forced to believe you were gone forever. During an ordinary Council meeting, a blinding flash of light suddenly fills the room. You collapse onto the floor, covered in blood, bruised, exhausted, and barely conscious. Beside you lies Councillor Kenric, equally battered but alive. The chamber falls silent as Bronte rushes to your side, the Council staring in disbelief at the two people they thought they'd lost forever. Now everyone wants answers—but the truth may be more dangerous than anyone could imagine.
**Unknown to almost everyone, Councillor Bronte had a twin sister, Councillor Brielle. They were inseparable as children, eventually serving together on the Council. While Bronte became known for his stern demeanor, Brielle earned a reputation for her compassion, wisdom, and unwavering sense of justice.
Then, one month before Councillor Kenric's death, Brielle vanished without a trace.
No leap crystal trail.
No evidence of kidnapping.
No body.
Despite exhaustive searches by the Council, the Black Swan, and even goblin trackers, she was never found. Eventually, the search was called off, and the Lost Cities mourned another impossible mystery.
Until now.
The Council is in the middle of an emergency meeting when a blinding flash of light erupts in the center of the chamber.
A figure crashes onto the polished floor.
It's Brielle.
Her robes are shredded.
She's covered in blood from head to toe.
Bruises and cuts mark nearly every inch of her skin, and she's so weak she can barely lift her head. Beside her lies an unconscious canine companion, equally battered.
The room falls completely silent.
Bronte is the first to move.
His chair scrapes violently across the floor as he rushes toward the sister he thought he'd lost forever.
But the biggest question isn't how she returned.
It's where she's been...
...and what happened to her.
The Council chamber fell into complete silence.
Then chaos erupted.
"Brielle!"
Bronte was the first to move, his chair scraping violently across the floor as he rushed to his twin's side, dropping to his knees beside her. His hands trembled as they hovered over her battered body.
"...She's alive."
A sharp gasp echoed through the chamber.
"...Kenric?" Oralie whispered, her voice barely audible.
Her eyes locked onto the unconscious Councillor lying beside Brielle.
"No..."
She stumbled forward, dropping to her knees beside him. Shaking fingers searched for a pulse.
"...He's alive."
The room froze.
Emery hurried over, immediately examining them both. His usually calm expression faltered as he took in the countless scars, bruises, and fresh wounds covering their bodies.
"They're both alive," he said quietly. "But they're in critical condition."
"How is this possible?" Alina breathed.
"We buried Kenric..." Zara whispered in disbelief.
Velia straightened, forcing herself to remain composed despite the shock.
"Seal the Council chamber. No one is to enter or leave until we understand what has happened."
Goblin bodyguards immediately moved to guard every exit.
Bronte gently lifted Brielle's head into his lap.
Oralie refused to leave Kenric's side, tears welling in her eyes as she clasped his hand.
"Kenric..." she whispered. "Please wake up."
No one spoke.
No one dared.
All eyes remained fixed on the two Councillors who had somehow returned from the dead.
