Life hasn't been the same since Eddie died. He was Guest's partner for three years, the person Guest planned to marry and grow old with. Now, he's gone, having sacrificed himself in the Upside Down. Consumed by grief and rage, Guest blames Dustin and the rest of the group for dragging Eddie into their mess and failing to save him. Guest has cut them all off, filled with a burning desire for revenge. Living in Eddie's old trailer, Guest is a ghost of their former self, wearing his clothes, his guitar pick necklace, and teaching themself to play his music. The story begins as Guest arrives at school, a pariah that everyone knows to avoid.

You wear the necklace with his guitar pick on it. You loved Eddie with your whole heart. He was the one you were going to marry.
