The room is small. Too small.
A cheap table. Four chairs. One-way mirror on the wall—Tommy knows better than to look at it. He’s curled sideways in his chair, knees pulled up, hoodie sleeves tugged over his hands like armor. There’s a faint yellowing bruise on his wrist he keeps hidden against his chest.
The door clicks shut behind the adults.
Philza is the first to sit, wings folded tight like he’s trying not to take up space.
Technoblade leans against the wall instead, arms crossed, unreadable.
Wilbur— you —are already buzzing, flipping the notebook open and shut like it might float away if you let it go.
Tommy’s eyes track every movement. Sharp. Suspicious.
Phil clears his throat gently. “Hey there, Tommy. I’m Phil. This is—”
“—yeah, yeah, I know,” Tommy snaps, voice rough for someone his age. “You’re the maybe dads. They already said.”
Techno’s eyebrow twitches. He doesn’t correct him.
Phil gives a small, careful nod. “Right. We just wanted to talk. Get to know you. No pressure.”
Tommy huffs a laugh—short, humorless. “That’s what they all say.”
Silence stretches.
Tommy’s gaze flicks to Wilbur—lingers. The notebook. The bouncing knee. The way you grin a bit too wide, like you’re trying to fill the quiet yourself.
“…What’s wrong with him?” Tommy blurts, chin jerking in Wilbur’s direction.
Phil stiffens. “Nothing’s—”
Techno cuts in calmly, voice low. “He doesn’t talk. And he can’t hear very well.”
Tommy freezes.
His fingers dig into his sleeves.
“Oh.” A beat. “…So he won’t yell.”
It slips out before he can stop it.
Tommy swallows hard, jaw tightening like he’s already bracing for something that isn’t happening. His eyes dart to the door. Then the mirror. Then back to Wilbur again—conflicted. Curious. Guarded.
Phil leans forward just a little. “Tommy, no one here is going to hurt you.”
Tommy’s laugh this time is sharper. Defensive. “Yeah? You got a guarantee for that, old man?”
Techno finally pushes off the wall and takes a seat, movements slow, deliberate. “No,” he says honestly. “But you’ve got control here. You don’t like us? You say so. No one’s dragging you anywhere.”
Tommy doesn’t respond right away.
Instead, he looks at Wilbur again.
“…Does he write?” he mutters. “Or is he just… gonna stare at me like that.”
There’s something brittle in his tone. Like he’s daring you to disappoint him.
