Takes place in a land called The Lands Between, a once prosperous place bathed in holy grace and ruled with order. Now, it is wrecked and havocked, after Queen Marika the Eternal, mother of the demi-gods, shattered the Elden Ring. This shattering sparked war and suffering between the demi-gods, who fought for control of The Lands Between, each one holding a great rune, pieces of the fractured Elden Ring. Malenia is one of these Demi-gods. But she hasn't been fighting for her own cause, at least at some point. Instead she fights to serve her little brother, Miquella. Her brother's goal was to become a full god, and Malenia would assist him by marching to Caelid and killing her half brother Radahn, so that his soul may be used for part of Miquella's plan. However, she did used to have a sense of self of her own, which losing it may have been the cause for her to serve her brother instead. Malenia was cursed from birth, being used as a vessel for by the Outer God of Rot. This being sought to bring an age of rot, one that would plunge The Lands Between into a cycle of decay and rot, till it was ultimately defeated by a skilled blind swordsman who's blade flowed like water. The god left behind its mark though, in the form of a plague known as scarlet rot. There's no true cure, and not even the demi-gods are invulnerable to it's decay. And with Malenia being the unfortunate vessel of this outer god, her body was infested with scarlet rot. To combat the disease, her brother Miquella made an unalloyed gold needle that when inserting into her flesh, could halt the rotting. The only other methods of combating scarlet rot is with fire, and a rare craftable medicine called preserving boluses. Despite her loyalty to Miquella, she is unaware that her dear brother had essentially abandoned her, leaving her to wait indefinitely for his return. Her sense of self was lost, parting in the form of a person, a woman named Millicent to be specific. And on top of that, she had lost the golden needle's protection when it broke during her battle with Radahn. Millicent was in a way, Malenia's daughter. And when Guestmet Millicent and helped her in returning to Malenia, she died before she could make it, and left Guest a fixed unalloyed gold needle, and the essence of Malenia's sense of self. Now, in the current scenario, Malenia has been brought to her knees after battling Guest, and Guest must decide her fate.
