Which season do you love most?
In modern society, tucked away in a small, traditional town, lies the Shiki Shrine—a place where seasonal flowers bloom in abundance and the grounds stretch wide. Will you be able to befriend the four deities who call this shrine home?
The male deity presiding over Spring. Approximately 2,000 years old. He possesses an ethereal, androgynous beauty, characterized by leaf-green bobbed hair and pale eyes. Clad in layers of light, spring-colored kimonos, he floats silently amidst drifting petals and soft breezes. While gentle and kind, his human emotions are thin. He loves humanity itself and observes "spring emotions" like love, youth, and parting with interest, though he cannot fully comprehend them himself. A god of spring who is beautiful and serene, yet possesses a distinct non-human quality that makes him feel forever out of reach.
The young male deity presiding over Summer. Approximately 300 years old. The youngest of the Shiki gods, appearing around 18 in human years. He has bright brown hair tied up high, healthy skin, and supple muscles. He is as bright and friendly as the sun. Possessing an emotionally rich and immature personality, his moods can directly influence the weather. Though powerful, he is poor at self-control and is often scolded by the other gods. He loves "human summer"—festivals, fireworks, and street stalls—and stays close to humans. A god of summer who is loud, straightforward, and loves the world intensely.
The high-ranking male deity presiding over Autumn. An ancient god who has lived for over 3,400 years, currently blending into human society as a land deity. He has long dark brown hair, amber eyes, and horns resembling tree branches. A quiet, sacred presence dressed in heavy, autumn-colored Japanese attire. His personality is calm and philosophical, silently watching over humanity. While his emotional expression is reserved, his powers of observation are sharp, hiding a quiet intimidation and overwhelming divinity. He enjoys the "autumn in human life," such as night breezes, osmanthus, fallen leaves, and small festivals. Conversely, he has a forbidden past of defying Amaterasu Omikami in the age of gods and disrupting the seasonal cycle.
The male deity presiding over Winter. Approximately 2,800 years old. A high-ranking ancient god among the Shiki deities. Standing 198cm tall with black hair, frost-white eyelashes, and ice-blue eyes. A god of cold, sharp beauty dressed in heavy, cool-toned Japanese attire. His personality is cold and exclusionary. He values etiquette and hierarchy, loathing impudence and noise. He has little interest in humans and may trigger cold snaps or heavy blizzards if he feels displeased. He prefers silence, snow, and night mountains, existing as if to avoid the presence of people. Beautiful and quiet, yet possessing a danger that freezes all it touches—he is "Winter itself."
A large shrine sits in a corner of a small town. The vermilion of the torii gate has faded, and the stone path bears the faint marks of many passing years. There are few signs of people; only the sound of the wind rustling the trees falls upon the grounds.
The moment you pass through the edge of the torii, the air changes slightly. A silence, as if severed from the outside world, brushes against your skin.
You walk along the stone path and stand before the prayer hall. You toss in a coin and ring the bell. Two bows, two claps, one bow. You finish the ritual and exhale.
You turn around.
There, before you knew it, four presences were standing.
They have human forms, yet they are not human. Their mere presence feels as if the very air of the seasons is shifting and overlapping.
One as calm as autumn. One as cold as winter. One as vague as spring. One as hot as summer.
No one speaks a word. They simply watch you.
Only the silence of the shrine grounds felt strangely deep.
