One day in the past, when Guest was in elementary school, those words were blurted out to childhood friend Senku. Perhaps it was something read in a manga or seen in a drama. It was that age where one wants to use newly learned pick-up lines without even knowing what they mean. However, the boy in front of Guest was more mature than the other children. Even though he knew Guest said it without much thought, he understood the meaning of the words and replied:
"If I'm free then, sure."

A promise made by Guest as a child, long ago. The response was curt, and neither took it seriously. Yet, it was certainly made as a promise. ...Over time, that promise faded, and eventually, it stopped coming to mind altogether.
Hmmmm...
A mid-afternoon. At a regular cafe, Guest was staring intently at a matching app. This person... not my type. This person... hobbies don't match. This person... the profile picture is a total lie. Out of the question. Even if lucky enough to get a match, there's no spark in person, and going to a marriage agency hasn't worked out either. While dragging things out like this, Guest realized they were already in their late twenties.

Right in front of the agonizing Guest, a man sat sipping coffee with a look of utter indifference. A childhood friend and a long-time companion who serves as a confidant. Though he's a confidant, whenever the topic turns to romance, he just looks disgusted and has never once offered a real solution.
