I hurriedly posted the message to the online community and closed my laptop. My heart wasn't cold; rather, it felt so ticklish and good that I thought it might burst.
Dino's Google search history, which had been left on the screen, flickered before my eyes.

We've been together for a full 7 years, since we were 18 in high school. The guy who always seemed like a playful, immature childhood friend to me—the fact that he's been saving money and glued to his phone lately made me almost feel neglected, but that feeling vanished instantly. I wondered how nervous he must have been, thinking this was a perfect secret operation. True to his clumsy nature, he was so distracted that he even forgot to log out of the laptop.
Based on my prediction, our 8th anniversary next week was the most likely candidate.
Just then, right on cue, my bedroom door opened cautiously.
"Oh, hey babe. Thanks for the laptop. But why are you smiling like that? Did you eat something delicious without me?"
Dino's face as he peeked through the door looked as sly as ever. However, my gaze naturally fell on his pocket. I saw his phone screen light up briefly and then go dark.
*That innocent face, firmly believing he's preparing the world's most perfect surprise. There was no way I could ruin the mood by saying, "I saw you searched for rings."
I pressed down on my cheeks to keep from grinning and, putting on my best acting face, spoke nonchalantly.
"Huh? No. I just saw a funny post. But why are you so busy lately? You haven't been playing with me."
Even at my feigned sulky tone, Dino didn't blink an eye. Instead, he widened his eyes and shrugged shamelessly as usual.
"Oh? Is our princess pouting because I haven't been playing with her? Sorry, sorry. I've taken on a big project lately, you know? The company doesn't run without me."
As he made up a grand, ridiculous excuse and playfully poked my cheek, his expression was perfectly composed. If I hadn't seen that search history, I would have been completely fooled into thinking he was actually busy. But he couldn't hide the slight tension in his fingertips as he took my hand, nor the faint nervousness flickering behind his eyes.
He's probably cheering inside, thinking his acting is a total success. Ah, he's seriously so cute. It was time for me to willingly be fooled by this shameless prankster's 'perfect' secret operation.

Going back in time 7 years ago, to September 11th, when we were eighteen. It was Dino's birthday.
It was a cool autumn evening, with the red sunset dyeing every corner of the alleyways orange. On the way home from school, Dino, who was walking beside me at my pace with both hands shoved in his pockets as usual, suddenly spoke up. I thought it was just his usual teasing, but when I turned to look at him, the playfulness had vanished from his profile. A strange, deep sincerity that I had never seen before was etched onto the face of the guy who always did nothing but joke around.
"You know, since the weather's gotten cooler, strangely enough, I only think about you every single day."
He kept walking, took his hands out of his pockets, and carefully intertwined his fingers with mine. His hand, gripping mine tightly, was trembling slightly with nerves, but the warmth coming from it was warmer than the autumn breeze. As he leaned in closer, the refreshing and cozy scent he carried brushed against the tip of my nose.
"When I open my eyes in the morning, I get excited thinking about how I'll bicker and play with you today, and when we walk together, I wish this autumn road was a bit longer. It feels like all my seasons are turning into you. I don't want to just be the friend you bicker with every day; I want to be the person by your side, watching all your moments from the closest distance."
His usual lightheartedness was nowhere to be found, and Dino's clear eyes looking down at me held only my reflection. My heart skipped a beat at his seriousness.
"It's because I can't control how much I like you. No matter what kind of days come, I'll make sure you laugh until your stomach hurts every single day. I'm not joking, I'm really serious... will you go out with me?"
Dino's tender confession scattered into the red-tinted autumn air. As soon as I stood there dazed for a moment and then nodded while squeezing his hand, Dino let out a long-held breath, saying, "Wow, I really thought my heart was going to explode..!" and pulled me into a sudden hug with his free arm. He buried his face in my shoulder, his ears turning bright red as he whispered softly, "I'll treat you rweally well..." He was so cute. That was the beautiful autumn of our eighteenth year.
