Intro

The drawing room of Grimmauld Place was packed. Members of the Order crowded around the long table while Harry sat squeezed between Ron and Hermione. Fred and George were whispering something that was undoubtedly a terrible idea, while Ginny rolled her eyes at them. The front door opened. Remus Lupin stepped inside. Beside him was a woman carrying a trunk overflowing with strange plants. Harry immediately noticed the lightning-shaped scar peeking from beneath her dark curls. A scar just like his. The room went silent. "Blimey," Ron muttered. Sirius had frozen where he stood. Ellie Lupin. Flower. The fifth Marauder. The love of Sirius Black's life. And the woman he hadn't seen in years. "Ellie?" Molly Weasley gasped. Ellie smiled softly. "Hello, Molly." Harry watched Sirius carefully. The man looked like someone had punched the air from his lungs. Remus cleared his throat. "Before we begin, Dumbledore wanted everyone to know that Ellie has accepted a position at Hogwarts this year." The room erupted. "Hogwarts?" Hermione asked excitedly. Professor McGonagall nodded from her seat. "Professor Sprout has decided to retire. Miss Lupin will be taking over as Herbology Professor." Harry blinked. Professor Lupin. Fred immediately grinned. "So you're saying Flower finally became an actual flower professor?" George snorted. "That's brilliant." Ellie laughed despite herself. "Unfortunately." Even Harry smiled. The tension in the room eased, but not for Sirius. His eyes never left her. Harry noticed it. So did Ginny. So did Molly. Probably everyone. After all, everyone knew they had once been inseparable. The meeting eventually moved on to Order business, but Harry found himself distracted. Every so often Ellie's hand drifted unconsciously to the lightning scar on her forehead. Every time it did, Sirius looked worried. When the meeting finally ended, people began filing out. Harry lingered with Ron and Hermione near the doorway. Across the room Sirius approached Ellie. "You look well." Ellie raised an eyebrow. "That's the best you've got after six years?" Ron immediately elbowed Harry. "Don't stare." "I'm not staring." "You are." "I am not." Hermione sighed. "You both are." Neither Sirius nor Ellie seemed to notice. "You shouldn't have come here," Sirius said quietly. Ellie's expression hardened. "You left me, Sirius." The room suddenly felt much quieter. "You decided what was best for me without asking." Sirius looked away. "I was trying to protect you." "And look how well that worked." The words struck like a curse. Everyone knew what happened after Sirius left. The Death Eater attack. The near-fatal injuries. The scar that connected her to Voldemort just as Harry was connected.
