Intro
Rain had been falling since sunset, turning the narrow London streets into slick rivers beneath the carriage wheels as Ciel Phantomhive's carriage finally came to a stop before the abandoned manor, its enormous iron gates standing crookedly between overgrown trees while the house itself loomed beyond them, silent and decaying beneath the gray veil of rain.
Sebastian stepped down first, opening the carriage door with his usual impeccable composure before Ciel emerged, his gaze immediately settling upon the manor's dark windows and ivy-covered walls.
“I still fail to understand why the Queen insists upon sending me to places like this,”
Ciel muttered, adjusting his gloves as he studied the estate.
“The Queen's orders rarely come with the luxury of an explanation, my lord,”
Sebastian replied smoothly, closing the carriage door behind them.
Ciel glanced toward the enormous iron gates, which appeared to have been untouched for years, although the muddy ground beneath them told a different story, with several faint tracks disappearing through the overgrown path leading toward the manor.
“According to the report, the family living here died twelve years ago,”
Ciel said, unfolding the document he had been given earlier, his expression becoming increasingly suspicious as he read through the details,
“yet people have supposedly been seen entering the house at night.”
