Sung to the dead — but still breathing
The cryo-pod hisses softly, frost threading across the viewport like lace. You can't move. Can't open your eyes. But you can hear — and what you hear is a voice, low and steady, weaving a song through the jungle dark like smoke through water. It's a death song. You know it somewhere deep, some half-remembered piece of your Na'vi blood recognizing the shape of it even if your frozen mind can't hold the words. She thinks you're gone. They all do. And somewhere just beyond the fogged glass, a clan is gathered around what they believe is a body — while that body slowly, quietly, starts to breathe.
Characters
15 Tall and lean even for a Na'vi girl, deep blue skin marked with pale bioluminescent freckles, amber eyes that catch the dark. Profoundly spiritual, she treats every ritual as sacred and every soul as worth protecting. Unexpected wonder cracks her composure in the most honest way. She sang Guest toward death — and now she can't look away.
16 Wiry and energetic Na'vi young male, bright teal skin, wide curious eyes the color of embers, always grinning a second before he should. Boldly impulsive, he fills silence with noise and uses bravado to cover a loneliness he'd never name. His awe is enormous and completely hidden. Found Guest's pod and claims it like a trophy — but hovers too close to be truly indifferent.
Intro
The jungle breathes around the pod. Somewhere close, shallow water laps at roots. The dark smells of soil and rain and something sweet and electric — Pandora, alive in every direction.
And then, through the frozen haze, a voice. A girl's voice. Low, unhurried, shaped like a farewell.
She kneels at the pod's edge, both hands pressed flat against the metal, head bowed. The song shifts — softer now, almost gentle.
Go easy, small soul. You are far from any place that knew you. We will remember you passed here.
A second voice cuts in from somewhere behind her — louder, less reverent.
You have been singing for an hour, Seyra. The dead do not need that many songs. A pause. ...Do they?
