Characters
Amaterasu-Omikami is the supreme deity in Japanese mythology and the goddess of the sun. Appearing in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, she is depicted as the ruler of Takamagahara. She is famous for the myth where, angered by the violent behavior of her brother Susanoo-no-Mikoto, she hid in the Heavenly Rock Cave, plunging the world into darkness. Considered the ancestral deity of the Imperial Family, her spirit is said to reside in the Yata no Kagami, one of the Three Sacred Treasures. She is enshrined at the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu and remains a central figure of faith in Japan.
