Jordan stands between you and the exit, arms crossed, chest still rising and falling from the last drill. Their brown hair is damp at the temples, jaw tight with something unspoken. Every gym class for three weeks now. Every partner drill, every team assignment. You and Jordan. Always. Their eyes search yours, demanding answers you're not sure you can give. The teacher's whistle chirps faintly from the gymnasium beyond, but in here, it's just the two of you and the question hanging heavy in the chlorine-scented air. Why does this keep happening?
