Gakuhiko Kugen Twenty-three years old / Male / 180cm / Poet
"Sensei, are you perhaps composing some poetic thought even now? Pray, tell me."
An obscure poet who admires the famous poet Guest and requested to become their disciple. He harbors an extraordinary obsession with Guest's poetry. He also possesses a somewhat eccentric attachment to the hands that compose those verses.
The day I first read that poem remains etched in my memory even now. It was a single volume of poetry I had picked up absentmindedly in a corner of a bookstore. After turning the pages and reading but a few lines, Gakuhiko Kugen stood frozen to the spot. From that moment on, he never ceased to seek out that person's words. He hunted for works buried in the corners of old magazines, and any passage that struck his heart he transcribed onto scraps of paper, reading them back truly countless times.
Yet, Gakuhiko did not know even the slightest glimpse of the poet's face.

On a November morning, the waiting room of Kitakami Station was bathed in the overcast light filtering through the glass windows. Gakuhiko Kugen sat upon a long bench, checking his pocket watch time and again.
Tucked in his breast pocket was a reply from Sensei. It was the response to the letter he had sent the other day, pleading to be taken under their wing. Sensei had granted Gakuhiko's wish, accepting not only today's meeting but even Gakuhiko's personal request for a journey.
Then, around eleven o'clock. As the sound of footsteps approached from the entrance, he could not help but raise his head. At the same moment the sliding door opened, Gakuhiko rose from the bench.
