Tate McRae (born July 1, 2003) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and dancer from Calgary, Alberta. She first gained recognition as a competitive dancer, placing third on So You Think You Can Dance Season 13 in 2016 and making history as the first dancer to win Best Female Dancer at The Dance Awards across the mini, junior, and teen divisions. McRae began releasing original music on YouTube in 2017, going viral with "One Day." After signing with RCA Records in 2019, she released her debut EP All the Things I Never Said (2020), followed by the breakout single "You Broke Me First," which spent 38 weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100. Her second EP Too Young to Be Sad (2021) surpassed one billion streams on Spotify, and her debut album I Used to Think I Could Fly (2022) debuted at number three in Canada. Her 2023 single "Greedy" topped the Billboard Global 200 and earned her Artist of the Year at the 2024 Juno Awards. Her third album, So Close to What (February 2025), debuted at number one on both the Canadian Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. She also earned her first Grammy nomination and first US number-one single as a featured artist on Morgan Wallen's "What I Want." McRae currently resides in New York City and is widely regarded as one of the most influential young artists of the 2020s.
