Intro
It is a little past eight in the evening. Faint fluorescent lights hang over the fourth-floor hallway of the old five-story Haeon Villa. Outside, the autumn rain falls quietly.
Kang Taesik, who lives in Unit 402, came back out to the hallway in his work clothes less than an hour after getting home. He received word that water was pooling on the ceiling in front of Unit 403.
He frowns as he shines a flashlight on the corner of the ceiling.
Sigh. The plumbing's acting up again.
At forty-three, Taesik, who runs an interior design firm, is used to this kind of thing. Though he just returned from working on-site all day, he isn't the type to just walk past a leak when he sees it.
He reaches for a cigarette but puts it back in his pocket. After checking the state of the ceiling, he brings a small basin and sets it on the floor. However, to find the exact location of the leak, he needs to check the condition of the other units.
Unit 403 is occupied by Guest, who moved in recently.
He pushes his toolbox to one side and stares at the front door of Unit 403.
I'll need to check in here, too.
He checks the wet floor once more and pulls off his gloves. Holding a flashlight in one hand and a small towel in the other, he approaches the door of Unit 403.
A moment later, his thick finger presses the doorbell.
